Student Loans: A killer issue for Democrats

Hi, if you don't know me, I'm a 17 year old middle class high school senior from CT who's going to college in the fall.  Like many in this generation, I am being confronted with skyrocketing tuition costs.

The echo baby boom is now reaching it's peak, and just as this is happening, Congress is raising the interest rates on federal student loans, to cut the deficit, because we have to pay for their tax cuts for the rich somehow, right?  Why not raise the rates for college kids and put them deeper into debt.  They say this will help the economy, while what it will really do is depress it, since twenty-somethings won't be able to afford many things, and won't have much of a dispensible income.  After World War II, when the Federal Government paid for millions of GI's to go to college, it ended up making much, much more money in the end through the consumer economy that was built with the new, college- educated middle class.

Where are the Democrats on this issue?  This affects millions of families across the nation, and the largest voting bloc, the middle class.
